What is interpolated paranasal Flap ?
This is the type of flap that is used to reconstruct the nasal ala and columella of nose.
What is Flap ?
Flap are the tissue that has it own blood supply from the region where it is taken. Like if flap is taken from head to nose, then the flap still has blood supply form the head.
What is Pedicle ?
Pedicle is the attachment or you can say part of flap that contain blood vessel.
What is tubed pedicle and direct pedicle ?
The tube pedicle are the pedicel that is rolled in tubed shape , this is older technique of flap transposition. In direct pedicle, it is directly transfer to the donor area.
What is interpolation of flap ?
It is the technique of moving or transferring the flap from donor area to the recipient area but both area not adjacent , it is at some distance and between donor area and recipient area, the normal skin is present.
What are the common example of interplated Flap
Melolabial flap- Nasal ala , Lip defect
Paramedial foreahd flap- Nasal defect
Postauricular Flap- Used in Ear recontruction
It is done in two stage, because the flap will get enough time so a good vascular connection will ve established at the recipient loc
These procedure are two staged procedure :
Stage 1: Formation of pedicle (CPT code 15570-15576 )
Stage 2: Division of pedicle (CPT code 15600-15630)
Takedown and Inset is performed in second stage, it means dividing the pedicle(blood supply) of the flap and repositioning and securing the flap permanently into the defect.
Note: If the skin graft or flap is needed to close the donor site, then it will be reported separately.
