Difference between Manipulation and Reduction
Manipulation means moving or adjusting a bone or joint using the hands to improve alignment, mobility, or function.
In Simple , Manipulation is the act of manually moving a bone or joint.
Reduction specifically means restoring a fractured bone or dislocated joint back to its normal anatomical position.
In Simple, Reduction is the act of restoring bone to normal alignment.
Reduction is most commonly performed for displaced fractures, but it is not limited only to displaced fractures.
What is Stabilization ?
Stabilization (Fixation) :After reduction, the bone must be kept in position while healing.
Stabilization methods include:
Cast or splint
External fixation
Plates and screws

Difference between Open fracture and Closed Fracture?
Open Fracture (Compound Fracture) : An open fracture occurs when the broken bone is
exposed to outer environment. So, bone is visible from outside.
Key Features:
Skin laceration present
High infection risk
Requires urgent surgical cleaning (irrigation and debridement)
Closed Fracture :This is the fracture ,when a bone breaks but the skin over the fracture remains intact.

Difference between Intra-articular fracture and Extra-articular Fracture?
An intra-articular fracture is a fracture that extends into the joint surface, meaning the break crosses into the area of the joint itself.
An extra-articular fracture is a fracture that does not involve the joint surface. It occurs outside of the joint and does not affect the articular surface directly.

Difference between Displaced Fracture and Non-displaced Fracture?
A displaced fracture occurs when the broken bone fragments have moved out of their normal anatomical alignment.
A non-displaced fracture means the the broken bone is still in the same anatomical alighment.
Note: If the physician has not given the either the fracurer is displaced or non-displaced by default consider it as displaced fracture.
Type of Fixation device used in fracture treatment
An intramedullary rod is a metal rod inserted into the medullary canal (center) of a long bone.
A percutaneous pin is a thin metal wire inserted through the skin into bone fragments.
A Rod and Screw Fixation refers to internal fixation using metal hardware.
What is percutaneous Pinning
Percutaneous pinning is a minimally invasive orthopedic procedure in which metal pins (usually K-wires – Kirschner wires) are inserted through the skin to stabilize a fractured bone.
“Percutaneous” = Through the skin
“Pinning” = Fixation using metal pins
So, it literally means stabilizing a fracture by inserting pins through small skin punctures without making a large surgical incision.
